Basic Small Business Advertising

In the simple and broadest manner, advertising is anything that promotes your business; whether it's a radio spot, a brochure, or a booth at a trade show. BUT, advertising usually refers to paid commercial messages in newspapers, magazines, radio, television, the Yellow Pages or outdoor advertising.

Here's a rundown of the key media:

• A newspaper is an inexpensive way to reach a big audience. Flexible and reasonably priced. Ideal to promote a sale or a special deal for your product or service. The problem is, they are a lot of other ads that comes from this medium, however, there’s a risk that yours may get lost in the papers.

Magazines are like newspapers and have better opportunities to catch a reader's attention, but it costs a bit more. They are good for promoting your company’s image and build its credibility. Trade magazines and genera; business publications are worthwhile for business-to-business advertising.

Radio is a low cost, high impact medium for local advertising. One of the best ways in reaching a target market, but costs a bit more than print and repetition is needed in this medium.

Television is a high-impact but costly medium. TV spots on major networks are very expensive; however cable channels that air your ads in select markets are more affordable.

Yellow Pages advertising aren’t cheap, but give hot prospects — people who are ready to buy. It's a good choice for area-specific businesses.

Outdoor advertising gives high visibility and costs are a bit low. But outdoor ads — billboards and transit ads — are best used in with other forms of advertising.

Before you advertise in any medium, consider your business and its industry. What is the target market and position? What sets your business apart form the other? What are the key benefits of your products or service. Focus your advertising in benefits but not features, what will you do for your customer. Your audience will like to know what’s in it for them

Repetition is the key on advertising. One-shot ads seldom work. A customer may ignore two out of three ads and there should be at least nine exposures for one to create an impact. Advertising has a cumulative effect; it takes time to get result and when its does, get ready for Increased demand.

Try one advertising medium and focus on it, Give it a chance to work. It’s better to be dominant in one medium than have a minimal presence in any. Don’t spread yourself too thin.

How to start a Business

The reason to start a business differs from person to person it could be financial, a dream of doing your passion, or doing something new in your life. Whatever your reason is you must start something on your right track, or you’ll end up with disappointment, heartache, and most of all, an empty wallet.

First off, what questions you need to ask to yourself when starting a business

1. How many hours you need in a day for it?
2. How much is the capital?
3. What kind of business I would start?
4. Where will I get the capital?
5. Where will I put it?
6. And the last is, How do I start a Business?

Here are some steps to give you an idea in starting a business

Step 1: Is the Business for you?

You have to make sure that starting a small business is what you really want. There are some instances that some people make their business because of the freedom and being in control but most of them are not into managing and operating a business, they can only specialize in one aspect of the business but not the whole of it.

Step 2: Decide on what kind of business you want

What kind of business do you want venture in? is it on service or retail business. Does your business will be online or have a physical location.

Step 3: Is there a market?

Every successful business has a market where the business reaps its profits. The flow of money should be going in, not going out. Research and ensure people what you want to offer.

Now you should have a general idea the business that you will do.

Running a business requires experience, knowledge and passion. With or without experience you must have the knowledge to minimize mistakes and to overcome your challenges. You can always gain the experience, but don't you think you should have the knowledge before getting the experience?

If the thought of a lot of responsibility, dealing with problems, working long and hard, and not having a steady paycheck gives you a scary feeling in your gut, think it over, running your own business may not be for you, and you might be better off looking into improving your current job situation.

Whether or not owning and operating a business is right for you, it's your decision and you're the only one qualified to make that decision. Take time to research and consider what's best for you.

Brand Management for Market Dominance

Brand management is defined as a series of marketing activities designed to develop the overall image of a product, product line, or brand. Some say that it is the art of creating and maintaining a brand. An art. That’s what it’s called. It is not just another boring management function. An effective brand management scheme separates a product from the competition.

Some business owners take brand management for granted, though everybody knows it’s important. All of us have to understand that simply having a good product isn’t enough. What use is the best product in the world if no one knows about it?

Positioning is the key. Knowing how to position one’s product in the market makes all the difference. When a customer hears your brand name, what is the first thing that pops up in his mind? The least I would want to sound like is a marketing text book, but it looks good on paper as it does in real life.

The biggest successes began with simple ideas backed up with crazy management, planning, and execution. From there, anything can happen. The carts-and-kiosks gig is a very competitive industry. This may be a bad thing for some, but this also provides a large venue for innovation. You can try virtually anything. In this area, trial and error works and is quite useful because you can immediately feel and see the effects of any implemented plan.

Take the risk. It’s the only way to learn. Just like any piece of art, the first try isn’t always right. Brand management is not a science, remember? It’s an art. Go for it!

Create your Business as you want it.

Most of us settle on things less than what we are truly capable of. This is shown, for example, when we set business goals that are far too accomplishable. We fall victim to impoverished ideas that don’t begin to give justice to the potential that we hold. There is always a need to be creative for us to be able to leave our competitors behind us. We need to learn to harness the passion in our hearts and power of minds to create the full strength of entrepreneurial spirit.

Through experiences and hardship, you’ll discover techniques and strategies that can help manipulate your business to what you want it to be. Discovering what you want reveals what your business will be. Knowing how your business functions will mean avoiding years of following and studying others. You should know how competition affects the market and eventually strengthening your capability to position your business in your selected niche. Sometimes you need to see and learn that creating your own strategic vision allows you to create your business as you want it.

Once you exert great effort on your ideas, that is the time you’ll learn to overcome trials in managing a business and ultimately have the power to control it.
